Shannons Insurance Day 3 Wrap

The 100th Round of the Shannons Nationals has wrapped up at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit, with competitors racing in very challenging conditions on the final day of racing.

CAMS Australian Endurance Championship

Jaxon Evans and Tim Miles have taken today’s first CAMS Australian Endurance Championship race win for the season, in a race filled with challenging conditions.

Starting from sixth for the 500km race, New Zealanders Evans and Miles drove their Valvoline Audi R8 LMS to the chequered ahead of the pole sitting Mercedes of Dom Storey and Peter Hackett.

Storey and Hackett kept their cool in the race despite pitlane dramas, finishing second ahead of Fraser Ross and Warren Luff.

Ross made huge ground at the start of the race, giving him and Luff a strong start for a solid podium position.

Towards the end of the race Geoff Emery and Garth Tander were charging, finishing fourth in the wet conditions.

Having gained the lead of the race on Lap 1, Liam Talbot and John Martin crossed the chequered in fifth, with Mark Griffith and Jake Camilleri rounding out the top six.

Porsche Carrera Cup Australia

David Wall and Shane Smollen have prevailed through a pair of dramatic races to win the annual Porsche Carrera Cup Australia Pro-Am event at Phillip Island.

Dean Grant and Lee Holdsworth combined to win an unpredictable second race held in wet and dry conditions, which was also the 300th Carrera Cup race.

Wall and Smollen won the Professional Class for Round 3, ahead of Andre Heimgartner/Aaron Ireland and Jaxon Evans/Tim Miles.

Grant and Holdsworth claimed the TAG Heuer Carrera Challenge Class, with a three-way tie with Stephen Grove/Tim Slade and Sam Shahin/Dan Gaunt ending in a countback to round out the top three.

CAMS Jayco Australian Formula 4 Championship

CAMS Foundation Rising Star Simon Fallon has had a breakthrough round win on home turf, claiming the final race win at Phillip Island today.

In a frantic third race for the weekend, Fallon climbed as high as second place after a Safety Car period with rain bunching the field.

Liam Lawson crossed the chequered first, however was deemed to have overtaken during the Safety Car period, dropping to seventh and giving Fallon the win.

Ryan Suhle was second for the round, tied on points with the round winner, with Cameron Shields rounding out the top three.

The race endured a long Safety Car period, after Aaron Love lost control onto the grass, colliding with Sage Murdoch and the impact causing Murdoch’s car to roll upside down into the gravel.

Tyler Everingham was fourth for the round, with Zane Morse and Nick Rowe rounding out the top six.

Radical Australia Cup

Michael Shaw has come back from a two-year sabbatical to claim the second race for the weekend in tricky conditions at Phillip Island.

Shaw, who also claimed the round win for the weekend, had a great rolling-start that saw series leader Peter Paddon spin on the main straight.

Peter Johnston was second for the round, ahead of Oliver Smith in the challenging wet/dry conditions.

Smith finished ahead of Tony Haggarty, while David Crampton and Chris Medland rounded out the top six.

Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Australia presented by Pirelli

West Australian Jordan Love has continued to impress in the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge, claiming the Professional class win for the second round of the series.

Love, who bounced back from a spin in Race 2, managed to win the final race of the weekend defeating young-gun Brenton Grove.

John Karytinos battled late in the race with Grove in the wet conditions, with the South Australian finishing a solid third in the final race for the weekend.

The Shannons Nationals will now head to Winton Motor Raceway for the next round of the season, racing on the Victorian circuit on 9-11 June.
