Porsche to enjoy double the fun at The Bend

Porsche fans will be the big winners at December’s Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships at The Bend Motorsport Park, with both the Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup Australia and Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge Australia confirmed to compete.

Having already completed two rounds at Shannons events in 2021, the Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge Australia will once again form part of a busy schedule at The Bend with the category to hold a double round across the weekend.

For the first time in recent years, the Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup Australia will feature in a Shannons event with the premiere one-make series to also hold a double round.

The Bend will serve as the season finale for both series and will wrap up a busy fortnight for Carrera Cup competitors, who will be coming straight off a round at Mount Panorama as part of the Repco Bathurst 1000 six-day extravaganza.

Porsche Cars Australia’s Head of Motorsport, Troy Bundy was pleased to lock in a calendar for the rest of the year.

“We want to go racing as much as anybody and are doing all within our means to get our teams and drivers back on track.” Bundy said.

“This announcement provides the opportunity for both categories to try to complete their seasons in what has been a challenging year for all key stakeholders.

“I would like to thank our competitors and teams for all the continued support they have provided us during the year, as well as Supercars Australia and Motorsport Australia for working with us over the last few months to achieve the best possible opportunities to go racing again.”

As it stands, Cameron Hill has a comfortable 80 point lead over Cooper Murray in the Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup, with the drop-round ruling from last year a possibility of being implemented again due to a number of teams being unable to attend events.

The title battle in the Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge is much closer with just 26 points separating Ryan Suhle and Christian Pancione after two rounds.

The 2021 Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships season finale at The Bend Motorsport Park takes place on 10-12 December.
