Porsche stars unite for mountain showdown

The Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge contenders will return for the sixth and final round of the series’ exciting season at Supercheap Auto Bathurst International this weekend.

An impressive 29 competitors will tackle Mount Panorama Circuit for the last round of 2023, with outright and class titles still to be decided.

Series leader, Marco Giltrap will headline the star-studded entry list with the 19-year-old Kiwi currently holding a 171-point lead over Aron Shields – who will also return for round six.

A 17th place or better finish in the first of three races of the weekend will all but secure the title, with the battle for the remaining podium places expected to steal the headline.

Only 32-points separate Shields and the in-form Oscar Targett, with the latter coming off a round win at Shell V-Power Motorsport Park last month. However, Shields was also able to take a victory in the enduro race that very weekend.

If the weekend weren’t to go their way, there are a number of other contenders who could insert themselves into the conversation, including Hamish Fitzsimmons and Ronan Murphy.

Also returning will be regular frontrunners Lachlan Bloxsom and Marcos Flack, while the rapid Nash Morris can also throw a spanner in the works with a handful of wins to his name already this year.

The Pro-Am fight will also be decided this weekend, where Sam Shahin heads into the round with a 118-point lead over newcomer, Matt Slavin.

While it will again be a big ask for Slavin to call back, there will be plenty of focus on the battle for third – with the in-form Brett Boulton aiming to overhaul David Greig for the position.

The exciting one-make Porsche category will see plenty of track time across the weekend, with a 45-minute practice session kicking off the action on Friday morning.

Qualifying will then decide the field for race one later in the afternoon, which will see an 18-lap affair as the first of the racing action across all participating categories.

Saturday will host the final two races of the weekend, with the first beginning at 12:05pm AEDT before one more run at 2:50pm AEDT.
