Perfect Sunday closes Shannons SpeedSeries event in Sydney

The Shannons SpeedSeries event at Sydney Motorsport Park ended in glorious sunshine as five categories provided spectacular action to complete the schedule.

GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS, Monochrome GT4 Australia and Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge had one encounter on the schedule, Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli Australasia had a qualifying session into a race, while First Focus Radical Cup Australia held two contests to conclude its round.

GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS

Ferrari once again tasted victory courtesy of Jaxon Evans and Elliott Schutte of Arise Racing GT in a dominating performance asserting their position at the top of the standings.

The pair’s Ferrari 296 GT3 led two Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo IIs across the line, with Ryan Wood scoring second in the Wolfbrook Team MPC entry alongside Steve Brooks for their first appearance on the podium for the season. Broc Feeney and Brad Schumacher took third in the Kelso Electrical Team MPC Audi.

Renee Gracie did the double in Am Cup driving the OnlyFans Team MPC Audi from Black Wolf Motorsport’s Ben Schoots and Shane Woodman in the Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo.

Monochrome GT4 Australia

The Mustang finally struck back in Sydney as Rylan Gray and George Miedecke took their first Silver Cup victory of the season in the Lubrimaxx with Miedecke Motorsport entry.

Second was the Central West Prestige BMW M4 GT4 G82 of Cody Burcher and Tim Leahey, but the battle for third proved most compelling.

Nash Morris driving the TekworkX Motorsport Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS CS held off a late charge from the Method Motorsport McLaren Artura GT4 of Tom Hayman. For Morris and co-driver Zoe Wood, it was their second podium of the season, while Hayman did his title defence no harm in fourth partnered by Max Geoghegan.

Aaron Seton and Jason Gomerall completed a story of redemption to score the Silver-Am Cup in the Gomersall Motorsport Ford Mustang GT4 after spinning off in Race 1.

Hugo Allan scored a podium on debut in the Game Over Toyota Supra GT4 Evo2 partnering Tony Quinn, with Ryder Quinn and Steve Jakic matching their third in Race 1 steering the Thunder Buddies Racing/TekworkX Motorsport BMW M4 GT4 G82.

Completing his domination of Am Cup was Shane Smollen in the Method Motorsport Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS CS from Randall Racing’s Jamie Augustine and Peter Lawrence in their BMW M4 GT4 G82. Glenn Walker gave Gomersall Motorsport another podium in his previous generation M4 GT4 F82.

Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli Australasia

Antoine Gittany dominated the Trofeo Pirelli class by taking pole and sealing the win in his Ferrari Sydney 296 Challenge.

Jim Pollicina finished second in qualifying and Race 2, but Cameron Campbell was in podium contention until he spun leading to a trip to the pits. This opened the door for Mark Hudders to take the final step on the podium.

Enzo Cheng continues to perform at an optimum level by not only dominating Coppa Shell, but also challenging Gittany for the race victory. Japanese visitor Norikazu Shibata and David Trewern completed the podiums.

Michel Stephan did likewise in Trofeo Pirelli 488 from Japanese drivers Baby Kei and Hiroyuki Katayama.

Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge

A fast start from Kamal Mrad was maybe a bit too fast as despite crossing the line first in the 45-minute Jim Richards Championship finale, he was penalised 5s for an early jump elevating James Lodge to the victory.

Ryan Casha also moved to second ahead of Mrad, Lachlan Bloxsom and Jake Santalucia.

Class B for previous generation Cup Cars was again led by Daniel Quimby, with Ramu Farrell scoring the Am Class win.

First Focus Radical Cup Australia

Cooper Cutts completed a superb clean-sweep in Sydney after taking Races 3 and 4 for the weekend from Peter Paddon.

Mark Brame scored third and was lead Am Class contender ahead of Brad Russell in Race 3.

In the finale, Josh Hunt scored an outright podium in the sole Pro-Am entry, with Brame again leading Russell in the Am Class.

The Shannons SpeedSeries returns at Queensland Raceway on May 30-June 1 featuring GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS, Monochrome GT4 Australia, Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge, First Focus Radical Cup Australia and the National Sports Sedan Series.
