Since the season opener of the Australian Production Car Series at Bathurst, the team at Osborne Motorsport have been working hard to rebuild one of their Renault Meganes for this weekend.
Although the damage looked minor on-screen, once the #31 Renault came back to the garage the crew realised they had some high repair requirements.
“The car was bent underneath, so it required very extensive repairs even though when you watched the contact it seemed so minor,” Team Principal Colin Osborne said.
“The rear part of the shell was structurally out of alignment and the rear axle assembly was bent and required replacement.
“All of this is compounded by the fact that you have to remove a lot of systems to affect the repairs, so when the car got back mid-last week there was a lot of work to do to reinstall all those systems and then get to preparing the car ready for racing at Winton this week – all in a matter of days really.”
Despite preparing the car so close to the weekend, the team is confident that they’ll have strong round.
“We know the car is fit for the job, and we will be constantly checking it over the course of the Winton weekend to make sure nothing has been overlooked,” Osborne said.
The #31 Renault Megane will this weekend be driven by young-gun Tyler Everingham and Michael Almond, while their other car, the #13 Renault Megane will be steered by Osborne and Hadrian Morrall.
The Australian Production Car Series joins the Shannons Nationals for the second round of their series, beginning this Friday, 9 June.
