The V8 Sleuth Touring Car Classic has had a major boost ahead of its inaugural event with KUMHO Tyre Australia being announced as the new major sponsor.
As just one of many category partners of the tyre provider, the V8 Sleuth Touring Car Classic will receive the same 17-inch Kumho tyres that are used in the brand’s other major partnership, the Kuhmo Tyres Super3 Series.
With Kuhmo Tyres Australia set to be the Control Tyre Supplier and Event Sponsor for the category, Kumho Tyre Australia Sales and Marketing Director David Basha was thrilled to add another category to its growing Australian motor sport portfolio.
“This year we celebrate our 12th season involved in what is now known as the Super3 Series and the V8 Sleuth Touring Car Classic is a further extension of that involvement,” Basha said.
“When the Super3 Series started as V8 Touring Cars in 2008 it was a place where the older ex-V8 Supercars could continue to race. Now it’s become the official third tier packed with young drivers wanting to make a name for themselves.
“So it’s logical that the older cars now have a separate platform upon which the history of the sport can be showcased. Fans will really enjoy seeing some very memorable cars return to the track.
“Kumho Tyre Australia is really thrilled to be involved with the Classic at the Winton Shannons Nationals round, it’s an exciting concept.”
The V8 Sleuth Touring Car Classic will be a celebration of Australian touring car racing history and will include a host of classic cars as part of the grid with different classes.
From manufactured Ford and Commodore V8 Supercars from 1992 to 2002 and post-Project Blueprint cars from 2003 to 2007, there will a number of former V8 Supercars/five-litre V8 Touring Cars, two-litre Super Tourers and V8 Future Tourers.
Like the Super3 series, there will be multiple practice sessions, qualifying and three races across the Fathers’ day weekend at Winton.
The category will be taking place at Winton Motor Raceway on 31 August – 1 September as part of the Shannons Nationals and will be live streamed through the Nationals’ social media channels and website
