New faces for Shannons SpeedSeries broadcast at Queensland Raceway

Charlie Barlow has been drafted into the on-air broadcast team for the third round of the Shannons SpeedSeries at Queensland Raceway this weekend.

Barlow will be joined by the returning Cameron van den Dungen to form a new look line-up that will be seen and heard on 7plus and 7mate.

The pair will saddle up alongside regular callers Greg Rust, Richard Craill and Supercars star Thomas Randle.

Van den Dungen is filling in for Chris Stubbs who is working at the Roland-Garros tennis grand slam in France.

Barlow has enjoyed a distinguished career in the motorsport media, including her current position at Motorsport Australia as the Development Manager, taking in leadership roles for the Girls on Track and First Gear programs, among others.

She also continues to feature as part of the big screen production team seen at major Supercars events.

While this marks Barlow’s first time appearing on the Shannons SpeedSeries broadcast, there is a strong connection to one of the racing categories on the support bill – Sports Sedans. Her first job in Australian motorsport came with the popular Sports Sedan category where she cut her teeth as a volunteer media contributor.

Van den Dungen is no stranger to the Shannons SpeedSeries broadcast, having played full-time and cameo roles in the commentary box and the pit lane for over a decade.

In fact, van den Deungen was part of the calling team of the very first iteration of the Shannons SpeedSeries broadcast back in 2010.

The Shannons SpeedSeries – part of the GT Festival Queensland – will see five classes on track over the weekend including GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS, Monochrome GT4, Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge, First Focus Radical Cup and the National Sports Sedan Series.

Track action at Queensland Raceway begins today with all categories on track.

Qualifying and racing will be held on Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are available here >> https://www.speedseries.com.au/tickets/

Charlie Barlow
Commentator, Shannons SpeedSeries

“It’s great to be back on a broadcasting role with SRO Motorsport Australia for the Shannons SpeedSeries,” said Barlow.

“It was nice to get the phone call and have the chance to come back. It’s a real passion of mine and I’m grateful for the opportunity.

“It’s interesting because I haven’t been to the first two rounds, so I feel like I’ve missed the entree and I’m going straight to the main course.

“And to get to work with some real professionals – Greg Rust, Thomas, Cam and my favourite Richard Craill – it will make it seem like light work.

“Funnily enough, National Sports Sedans was a category that I was involved with at the start of my career, so it will be nice to rekindle with some of those guys from that side of the paddock.”

Cameron van den Dungen
Commentator, Shannons SpeedSeries

“I’ve been involved in the broadcast of the Shannons SpeedSeries since basically day dot, and it’s always nice to get the chance to come back,” said van den Dungen.

“What I love about it is that it always has great cars and awesome competitors who have a genuine opportunity on a national stage.

“I’m in pit lane for the two GT classes and then the comm box for the others, and I enjoy both disciplines. I love getting into the pit lane and being part of the cut and thrust of it all, but calling the Radicals and Sports Sedans will be a bunch of fun too.”
