MPC’s fleet welcomes new Audi additions

Melbourne Performance Centre (MPC) has secured another two brand-new Audi RS 3 LMS TCR cars after the successful inaugural carsales TCR Australia Series round at Sydney Motorsport Park earlier this month.

The cars are currently in transit from Germany and are expected to arrive in Australia for the second round of the Shannons Nationals at Phillip Island.

MPC’s new Audi acquisition comes off the back of Wall Racing’s recent purchase of two new TCR cars, giving Director of Australian Racing Group Director Matt Braid a heap of confidence for the first ever TCR Australia season.

“It is fantastic to see two more cars coming into the Melbourne Performance Centre stable for this year,” Braid said.

“Adding to the two new Hondas that were confirmed recently, this will mean that we are well over 20 cars in the country and more on the way.

“The Audis are one of the strongest and consistent performers on the TCR global front. The RS 3 was awarded the TCR ‘Model of the Year’ in 2018, so it’s no surprise to us that there has been strong interest in people racing it here.

“Audi has been a long time supporter of Australian and international motorsport. We met with a number of their management in Sydney and we’re looking forward to exploring more opportunities with them in the future.”

The two new Audis add to the Victorian team’s already strong TCR fleet, which includes another Audi RS 3, driven by Dutchman Rik Breukers in Sydney and the Aaron Cameron driven Volkswagen Golf GTI.

While Cameron will continue to compete in the season behind the wheel of the Golf, drivers for the three Audis are yet to be confirmed.

MPC’s Troy Russell was excited about the new purchases, the Managing Director hopeful of getting them filled for Phillip Island.

“The two new cars are for sale or lease, but we are committed to entering them, plus our existing Audi into the Phillip Island event,” Russell added.

“After Sydney, we received an incredible amount of positive feedback about TCR. Everyone realised that TCR Australia is real and it’s happening, and potential customers of ours were pleasantly surprised about how well it ran.

“And the whole show is only going to get better. For our business, and the feeling amongst the industry, TCR is the way forward. The interest has been massive. Hence why we have two new cars on the way.”

Tickets for the Shannons Nationals’ visit to Phillip Island are now on sale and can be purchased here, while fans can watch all the action live and free through the live stream on speedseries.com.au
