Moffat confirms Trans Am title defence 2024

James Moffat has confirmed he will return to the National Trans Am Series in 2024 to defend his title.

The reigning champion will once again be racing for Garry Rogers Motorsport and will be behind the wheel of the Valvoline/LMCT+ Ford Mustang for the six-round season.

This year will mark the sixth consecutive year Moffat will race for Garry Rogers Motorsport having re-joined back in 2019, but is just his second full season the popular category.

Making his Trans Am debut in a once-off appearance at Sydney Motorsport Park in 2021, Moffat switched from Supercheap Auto TCR Australia to Trans Am ahead of the 2023 season, where he enjoyed an unforgettable campaign.

Starting off with a clean sweep of race wins at Race Tasmania, Moffat stood on the podium a further 10 times across the six remaining rounds, four of which were on the top step.

With GRM acquiring a new chassis for the 2024 season, Moffat was ready to defend his title, starting off with next month’s season opener at Sandown International Raceway.

“I’m looking forward to the year ahead. 2023 was pretty successful for us, but that’s behind us now and the job ahead is to perform at a high level once again,” Moffat said.

“It’s exciting to be back with the team and everyone at GRM, Valvoline and LMCT+. The calendar is shaping up as a strong one, a lot of the tracks we visited last year but some big additions as well. The Trans Am cars will be spectacular around Adelaide, not just for the drivers but fans as well, and it’s a big way to finish the year.

“First and foremost I’m just excited to get going at Sandown, we’re in a brand-new car so we’re looking to hit the ground running. You never take anything for granted in this sport, so hopefully we can pick up where we left off. The depth of talent in the field continues to improve year-on-year, there’s a really good mix of drivers in the field.

“If we do all the things right that we did last year, we should be competitive again throughout the season.”

Although Moffat has the option to run the number one plate in 2024, the 39-year-old will instead use his preferred #34 for the season.

Tickets for the three-day season opener can be purchased via motorsporttickets.com.au.

Those unable to make it to Race Sandown will be able to watch Saturday and Sunday’s action unfold live and free via 7plus and on the Seven Network.

The National Trans Am Series 2024 season kicks off at the Shannons SpeedSeries opening round at Sandown International Raceway on 9-11 February.
