Mixed conditions ensure thrilling end to Shannons SpeedSeries at Phillip Island

A mid-afternoon shower provided a thrilling end to a few races to round out the Shannons SpeedSeries action at Phillip Island.

Although Monochrome GT4 Australia and Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Australasia finished dry conditions, the same couldn’t be said for GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS, Focus First Radical Cup Australia and Michelin Sprint Challenge.

Check out the Sunday results below.

GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS

It was delight for Audi as Broc Feeney and Brad Schumacher took the Race 2 victory in the Kelso Electrical Team MPC R8 LMS GT3 Evo II.

It was close in the end as a storming Liam Talbot closed to within 0.7s at the flag to just fail to provide a fairytale last-to-first result for Volante Rosso Motorsport and co-driver Declan Fraser.

Rain in the closing stages provided an interesting finish to the race, with Elliott Schutte finishing third in the Arise Racing GT Ferrari 296 GT3 alongside Jaxon Evans after taking the position late from the Geyer Valmont Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo of George King and Sergio Pires.

Renee Gracie took the Am Class win for OnlyFans Team MPC in an Audi.

Monochrome GT4 Australia

It was a race of firsts in Monochrome GT4 Australia, with Audi and Toyota tasting success for the maiden time.

Blake Purdie and Daniel Price greeted the chequered flag in the Nippy’s Audi R8 LMS GT4 after overtaking the Miedecke Motorsport/Lubrimaxx Ford Mustang GT4 of Rylan Gray and George Miedecke at the 50-minute mark.

The Mustang dropped further when Tom Hayman took second in the Method Motorsport McLaren Artura GT4 to give Max Geoghegan a clean-sweep of podiums on debut.

GWR Australia made history as Daniel Frougas and Tim Berryman took the first win for the Toyota Supra GT4 Evo2 in Monochrome GT4 Australia.

Jacob Lawrence cemented his domination of Am Cup to add another victory in the Randall Racing BMW M4 GT4 G82.

Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli Australasia

Hosting a Qualifying session and Race 2 of the weekend on Sunday, Antoine Gittany continued his form by setting pole before converting this to the victory.

Gittany headed Cameron Campbell and Enzo Cheng in Qualifying before defeating Jim Pollicina in Race 2. Cheng filled out the podium.

Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge

An incident marred the start of the second Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge, but New Zealander Willie Exton took the win from a charging Jake Santalucia and Tom Bewley.

It was a Santalucia domination in the 45-minute Jim Richards Endurance Championship round to cap off the weekend to win by more than 7s.

Bewley held off the advances of Ryan Casha in a race, which started damp, but ended completely dry.

Focus First Radical Australia Cup

Rivals Cooper Cutts and Peter Paddon split the wins in Sunday’s two events for the Focus First Radical Australia Cup.

Cutts defeated Paddon in Race 2 from Bryce Moore, with Terry Knowles winning the Am Class.

In the finale Paddon flipped the script to score the win from Cutts and Ruairidh Avern rounded out the podium. Peter Clare secured the Am Class result.

The next round of the Shannons SpeedSeries is at Sydney Motorsport Park on May 2-4 where GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS, Monochrome GT4 Australia, Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge, Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli Australasia and First Focus Radical Australia Cup.
