MG Motorsport jump on production bandwagon

MG Motorsport is the latest racing team to get involved in the 2018 Jacuzzi Spas Australian Production Car Series (APC) after recently announcing an entry ahead of the second round of the Shannons Nationals at Sandown this weekend.

Partnered with Brock Race Engineering, who will provide engineering and driver services, MG Motorsport will enter the #24 MG6 PLUS into the series, with James Brock and Elliot Barbour behind the wheel.

One of the first new generations MG vehicles released in Australia, the MG6 PLUS is powered by a 1.8 litre turbo and will compete in Class E.

MG Motor Australia’s Senior Manager for Marketing and Communications, Danny Lenartic was excited with the new partnership.

“We are extremely proud to partner with the highly regarded Brock Race Engineering operation to create MG Motorsport Australia, especially with James Brock leading the charge, a man with a peerless motor racing pedigree,” Lenartic, said.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity for MG Motor to showcase the capabilities of the MG6 PLUS, and further sign of our commitment to re-establishing the proud and passionate MG brand with new generations of Australians.”

For Brock, the main objective of this weekend’s debut is to get a finish the race and score some well-earned points.

“The plan is to try and finish every race across the APC season and prove the reliability of the MG6. At the same time, we want to make sure the team and everyone who is involved has fun,” Brock said.

“The APC is a tough series, and so we believe it is a great way to prove the reliability of the MG product.

“This will be the first outing for us as a crew in many years after we took a break from racing in 2012. We are looking forward to getting the band back together and hitting the road for fun and adventure – a win or two would be nice too.”

The 2018 Jacuzzi Spas Australian Production Car Series begins practice sessions and qualifying on the Friday afternoon, before competing in two races on both Saturday and Sunday.

Sunday’s action will be available on the Shannons Nationals live stream, available at speedseries.com.au and the Shannons Nationals Facebook page.
