James Simpson eyeing Trans Am return

Following his roll at AWC Race Tasmania, James Simpson is just as eager to return to the track after ordering a replacement chassis to continue his National Trans Am Series campaign.

Simpson is targeting a return at his home track, Queensland Raceway as his team awaits a new chassis from Howe Racing in the United States to arrive.

A strip down of the chassis was undertaken once the team received its Cairns Plaza Hotel Dodge Challenger back after being transported from Symmons Plains, the damage discovered proved too severe to repair.

“Once we got the car back we stripped all the fibreglass down to a bare chassis,” said Simpson.

“Unfortunately the chassis was twisted and bent, which was the main damage, but engine is fine, seat is as well.

“I don’t think we’ll make the next couple of rounds as a chassis is not available in Australia, so we’ve got one on its way from Howe in America. Our goal is to make the Queensland Raceway round, but you never know and if we get some help, it could be sooner.

“That’s what we’re waiting for now, a new chassis.”

Having recovered from most of his minor injuries consisting the severity of the incident, Simpson is keen to get back behind the wheel and continue his development.

“I’m alright now, still a little sore in my shoulder and I’ve done a few sessions with the physio, but once that’s all done I should be good,” Simpson explained.

“I can’t wait to get back in the car and do better.”

Although not making his debut in the National Trans Am Series, Simpson did find the Symmons Plains layout challenging and made a good account of himself to be on the edge of the top 10.

“I was quite happy with how I was going,” Simpson described his AWC Race Tasmania weekend prior to the crash.

“Symmons Plains looks so easy from both on paper and on the walk, but it’s probably the hardest track I’ve been too.”
