After an impressive run in the 2021 Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge Australia Series, Callum Hedge will make the step up to the Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup Australia for the rest of the season.
With the Carrera Cup featuring a double round at the Repco Bathurst 1000 and then completing its season finale at The Bend Motorsport Park as part of the Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships, there are still plenty of opportunities for the Kiwi young gun to race.
Hedge will contest the remaining three rounds of the Carrera Cup season with Earl Bamber Motorsport, joining fellow Team Porsche New Zealand driver Matthew Payne and Madeline Stewart for the team’s three-pronged attack.
The 18-year-old currently sits third on the Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge Australia standings and was looking forward to making his return to Australia.
“I am super excited to be able to return to Australia and finish what we started with EBM and Team Porsche New Zealand,” Hedge said.
“Moving straight into Carrera Cup Australia, having not driven a Porsche for a few months now will for sure be a challenge, but I am really looking forward to it
“I am really looking forward to just seeing the team again and catching up with them, as well as driving the 991.2 at Bathurst and The Bend for the first time.
“Having spent months in lockdown in New Zealand, meant it was very hard to prepare for this event. Everything was shut, which led to having very limited track time during this break.”
Although he hasn’t raced in a Porsche since before lockdown, Hedge still got some time behind the wheel, having headed over to Italy for the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine.
Competing in Monza for the Championship’s season finale, Hedge raced for Swiss outfit G4 Racing and finished 22nd and 20th.
“I knew going over there that being with a small team was going to be a challenge,” Hedge added.
“Although our results didn’t reflect it, we easily had the pace to be well within the Top 10 and fight near the front.”
With the Repco Bathurst 1000 taking place at the end of November, Hedge will be making his way over from New Zealand shortly.
