First team ready for TCR Campaign

A new Hyundai team has been confirmed as the first entrants in the 2019 Australian TCR Series.

Two Hyundai i30 Ns will be some of the first cars to start the series when it debuts in Australia next year, led by HMO Customer Racing – a new Sydney based team led by Dave Cameron and Barry Morcom.

“We’re 100 per cent ready to go in TCR. The cars are ordered and they will be here. We will be on the grid,” Cameron told Carsales.

Up to five cars could also be part of the team as it prepares for one of Australia’s newest categories, which is expected to be part of the Shannons Nationals and Supercars calendars in 2019.

“We’ve got the OK from (Hyundai Motorsport in) Germany to go ahead as a customer racing partner. We’ve signed the first round of contracts and once we sell the next two cars then we move to the second phase of the agreement.”

CAMS recently granted the commercial and promotional rights of the Touring Car Racing Series to newly-formed category promoters Australian Racing Group (ARG).

The Australian Racing Group is an Australian-owned company, which aims to develop and promote top quality racing categories at high-profile motor sport events.

The new category management business is owned by a consortium of businessmen and is spearheaded by Matt Braid, the former Managing Director for Volvo Cars Australia and the Supercars Championship.

Hyundai has already been successful in TCR around the world, having just won the inaugural TCR Series title in America in both the teams and manufacturers Championship.

The TCR calendar for 2019 is expected to be announced soon.
