Entertaining Sunday wraps up EVENTelec GT Festival Queensland in style

The wild weather cleared on the final day of Shannons SpeedSeries’ third round of the 2025 season, as EVENTelec GT Festival Queensland came to a close in thrilling fashion.

A strong crowd turned up to Queensland Raceway to witness an impressive line-up of categories showcasing some of the best sports car racing in the country.

Headlining Sunday’s action were the final races for GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS and Monochrome GT4 Australia, while two races each closed out the round for Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge, First Focus Radical Cup Australia and the National Sports Sedans Series.

GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS

It was a repeat victory for Team BRM/ACM Finance duo Alex Peroni and Mark Rosser in their Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo II after taking a win at the corresponding event last year. The win completed a superb comeback after the team retired following a clash in the opening stages of yesterday’s Race 1.

Peroni and Rosser led an Audi 1-2-3 in the Pro-Am Class as New Zealand pair Brendon Leitch and Tim Miles bought home the Dayle ITM Team MPC R8 LMS GT3 Evo II in second place ahead of yesterday’s race winners Broc Feeney and Brad Schumacher in the Kelso Electrical Team MPC example.

Renee Gracie continued her dominant run in Am Class to score her second victory in Queensland for OnlyFans Team MPC in another Audi, while Paul Stokell returned to the category as a winner by taking the Trophy Class driving a previous generation Audi alongside Gary Higgon.

Monochrome GT4 Australia
Following the eventful opening in Saturday’s Monochrome GT4 Australia race, Race 2 provided thrilling moments of close racing as Rylan Gray and George Miedecke saluted the chequered flag on Sunday for the second round in a row.

Under pressure in the closing stages, Gray guided the Miedecke Motorsport with Lubrimaxx Ford Mustang GT4 home to victory just ahead of Jarrod Hughes in the JGI Triple Eight Race Engineering Mercedes-AMG GT4 started by Summer Rintoule.

The Silver Cup podium was completed by a fast closing Nash Morris in the TekworkX Motorsport Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS CS he shared alongside Zoe Woods.

Mustang also took the win in Silver-Am Cup courtesy of DA Campbell Transport’s Cameron Crick and Dean Campbell.

Tasmanian pair Lochie Dalton and Ben Newman were second in the Buckby Motorsport Mercedes-AMG GT4, beating the Gomersall Motorsport Ford Mustang GT4 of Aaron Seton and Jason Gomersall.

Jacob Lawrence returned to the top step of the Am Cup podium driving the Randall Racing BMW M4 GT4 G82 just ahead of the Method Motorsport Porsche of Nathan Callaghan and Chris Lillis.

AR Nineteen Motorsport’s Jamie Arratoon completed the Am Cup podium.

Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge
Pro-Am Class driver Ramu Farrell backed up his fine drive in yesterday’s opening race by scoring the first race on Sunday from Sonic Motor Racing Services’ Jake Santalucia and New Zealand rising star Willie Exton.

Farrell was a clear winner in Pro-Am Class from Lachlan Harburg and Jacque Jarjo, with Daniel Quimby scoring the Class B victory.

The 45-minute Jim Richards Endurance Championship closed out the round and Santalucia took the win on his way to round victory from Ryan Casha, while Tom Bewley completed the podium.

Despite dropping to fifth outright, Farrell won Am Class from Jarjo and Harburg as Quimby remained undefeated in Class B.

First Focus Radical Cup Australia
Cooper Cutts and Peter Paddon continued their intriguing weekend battle by sharing the spoils on Sunday with a win each.

Cutts secured a close victory in the opening encounter as Paddon continued to shadow his key rival in second, while Zig Fuhrmeister rounded out the outright podium on the way to winning Am Class.

Chris Reindler completed the Pro-Am Class podium behind Cutts and Paddon, as Terry Knowles ended up second in the Am Class ahead of Dave Allan.

There was disaster for Cutts in the final race of the weekend as he dropped back to ninth in the field, which allowed Paddon to score the outright victory ahead of Am Class contenders Brad Russell and Knowles.

Although Cutts lost out on the outright win, he finished second in the Pro-Am Class due to Reindler retiring, while Stephen Champion rounded out the Am Class behind Russell and Knowles.

National Sports Sedan Series
The National Sports Sedan Series returned to the Shannons SpeedSeries line-up for the first time in 2025 and it was Holden Calibra driver Steve Tamasi who dominated the day by completing a clean sweep of wins over the IRC GT SS of Geoff Taunton across the weekend.

A second IRC GT SS for Michael Rowell finished third in Sunday’s Race 2, but was demoted to fourth in the last by Michael Robinson in his Holden Monaro.

Sandown International Motor Raceway is next on the Shannons SpeedSeries schedule where the line-up will include two fresh categories in 2025.

The Battery World Aussie Racing Cars and Australian Formula Open feature on the bill alongside GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS, Monochrome GT4 Australia and First Focus Radical Cup Australia.

GT Festival Sandown will take place on July 25-27.
