Best to Class D

Class E runner-up in the 2016 Australian Production Car Series, Ellexandra Best, has announced her progression into Class D as part of Lauren Gray Motorsport.

Best lines-up alongside Michael Gray, as the pair prepare to tackle this weekend’s two 300km endurance races at Winton in a Toyota Corolla.

“I am looking forward to having an experience co-driver this year in Mick [Michael], his knowledge of the car will be beneficial as he knows the car better than anyone, and this will be invaluable in sharpening my driving skills,” Best said.

“After a recent test day, I am feeling quite comfortable in the car and am excited to see how it goes up against our competitors.

“I am thrilled to be driving at my home track at Winton Motor Raceway … our team’s main aim is to first finish and hopefully we can gain a podium finish, which would be a bonus.”

In 2016 Best drove with Liam Thompson under the Lauren Gray Motorsport banner, with Thompson now pursuing motor racing opportunities overseas.

The pair battled right down to the final round for the Class E victory, and Michael Gray was impressed with the duo’s debut season in the series.

“After having Ellexandra debut in the APCS with LGM last year and working alongside her, watching her grow and mature into a great young driver there was just no question … when the opportunity came up to drive with her I jumped at it,” Gray said.

“She has loads of experience and has done a lot of laps around Winton.

“At the end of the day we don’t have any huge expectations, we will just race to a plan and a strategy, stay out of trouble and bring the car home in one piece and hopefully without a scratch.”

The Australian Production Car Series heads into Winton this weekend for their second round of the season, as part of the third round of the Shannons Nationals.
