While there was lots of drama in the the 2022 Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour finale, there was just as much entertainment in Sunday’s support category action – even off the track, with heavy fog causing multiple delays to proceedings.
Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series
The series was the only category not to have a safety car today and it saw Aaron Cameron absolutely dominate throughout the 10-lap race.
Having started in second place alongside James Moffat, Cameron jumped the Renault driver off the line and took off from the rest of the pack.
Before long he was a couple of seconds in front and that extended out to eight and half seconds before he took the foot off the pedal and cruised his way to the finish line.
Crossing the line six seconds behind him was Bailey Sweeny in the Hyundai i30N, while Dylan O’Keefe made it two Peugeot 308 TCRs on the podium.
Unsurprisingly, Cameron’s two wins over the course of the weekend saw him take out round top honours, while Sweeny and Moffat shared the spoils for second place.
The series will return for the fourth round of the season next month with the Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships’ event at Sydney Motorsport Park.
Turtle Wax Trans Am Series
Reigning series champion Nathan Herne continued his dominance of the competition today, securing the clean sweep of wins for the round this morning.
Unfortunately the race finished under safety car due to a big crash on Conrod Straight, where the drivers involved thankfully walked away, but up until that point, Herne and Tim Brook put on quite the show.
The duo were neck and neck for much of the race, with Herne constantly defending his position, while Brook tried his hardest, but ran out of time before the race was eventually cut short.
Rounding out the top three for the weekend was Owen Kelly who picked up two race podiums, including one today.
As for the standings at the completion of the round, the young Kiwi has further extended his lead over Brook to 19, while Kelly’s third place for the round saw him cement third ahead of Sydney Motorsport Park.
HQ Holdens and Historic Touring Cars
Unfortunately both categories fell victim to the heavy fog that blanketed Mount Panorama this morning.
Although each was able to get on the track, it was only under safety car conditions, meaning no racing took place.
